Disabled Access & Policy

Benwick Primary School aspires to be sensitive to the needs of every child, reducing barriers to learning and making the curriculum accessible to every student.

Reasonable adjustments to physical and other arrangements of the school are considered where necessary, taking into account the nature of any impairment, pupil and parent views and advice from teachers and other professionals.  Parents are asked to inform the school of any disabilities or additional needs their child may have when registering.  Continuing communication between parents and staff a vital way of insuring adjustments can be made / considered and allow the school time to implement where necessary changes needed, whether impairments were apparent when the student entered the school or developed at a later stage.

If your child has significant special needs, please read the document below from Cambridgeshire County Council
Special Schools:

You can find details about special schools and specialist units in Cambridgeshire in the Cambridgeshire Online Directory.

In a very small number of cases, it may not be possible to meet a child's special educational and care needs within Local Authority maintained educational provision in Cambridgeshire. In these cases, after discussion with your SEN Casework Officer from the Statutory Assessment and Resources Team (START), children may attend an Independent Special School.

The Government produces lists of approved independent educational institutions, independent special schools and post-16 institutions (Section 41 Secretary Approved List) and non-maintained special schools and independent schools. These can be found on GOV UK.
