Double Bass

Violin

Cello

Viola

This half term we are going to be focusing on a piece of classical music called “The Carnival of the Animals which was written by the composer Camille Saint-Saens.

He was a French man who was born in 1835. He was a composer and also played the organ, piano and violin and he conducted orchestras and choirs (the person at the front who waves their arms around!).

He wrote Carnival of the Animals in 1886 and uses the instruments of the orchestra to sound like the different animals.

 Listen to this clip

Which instrument is playing it?  Which animal do you think it is meant to be? Is it high pitched or low pitched? Why do you think Saint-Saens chose that instrument to represent that animal?
