Monday 11th January 2021

Y1 - Learning Objective - I can identify how and when to use capital letters.

What do you know about capital letters? Can you remember what they look like? When do we use them?

Watch this video about Capital letters. You may want to pause it to answer the questions they ask and to do the tasks.

The last activity on the video; is to write a sentence with capital letters that contains a day of the week, I and a friend's name, with capital letters.

Task - Look at the capital letters worksheet. If a word should have a capital letter write the word out correctly.

YR - Learning Objective - I can recognise the letters of the alphabet, including their names.

Warm Up - sing the alphabet song

We've practiced saying the letter sounds in phonics. Can you remember the letter names?

Task - Pracitise writing your letters, tracing over the handwriting mat in your home learning kit. Remember to start each letter in the correct place

Learning Objective - To practice our reading skills.

Robins we're going to be practising our reading skills today in English. Watch the Gingerbread Man Reading video and complete the task to draw a picture to match the sentence.

Reception - Learning Objective - To compare stories and find similarities.

Today we're going to look at another story - The Runaway Chapati, by Susan Price. A chapati is a type of flat bread from India. This story reminds me of The Gingerbread Man. Click here to listen to the story. There is also a powerpoint version in resources where you'll be able to see the pictures more clearly. When you've finished listening to the story, think about how is the story the same, and how is it different to the story of The Gingerbread Man. Explain your thoughts to your grown ups. You could draw the similarities and differences or maybe explain them in a video and upload them to your portfolio on Class Dojo for us to see.

Year 1 - Learning Objective - To understand what a sentence is.

Today we're going to look at what a sentence is. A sentence is a group of words which go together, they are a complete thought. Sentences need to make sense. Sentences always start with a capital letter (check the handwriting sheet in your pack on how to form your capital letters). Sentences finish with some punctuation - a full stop, a question mark or an exclamation mark. Sentences also need spaces in between words. Click here to watch a video all about sentences. At the end of the video there is a task for you to finish the sentence starters; write these in your books. When you've finish that look at the resource below - Sentence writing prompts, choose 3 pictures and write sentences about them - don't forget, they need to make sense, start with a capital letter, have spaces between words and end with some punctuation. Upload your writing to your portfolio on Class Dojo.

Learning Objective - To use adjectives to describe a character

Today we're going to be describing one of the characters in The Gingerbread Man. We're going to use describing words - adjectives to help us. Click here to watch a video about what you have to do.

Choose your character - it could be the fox, the same as me, or it could be a different character. Then draw a picture of them. Write describing words around your picture.

Y1 - Put your adjectives into sentences.

When you've finished your work, please upload it to Class Dojo so we can see it.

Learning Objective - I can create a new character.

We're going to be changing the story of the Gingerbread Man to make it our own. Today we're going to create a new character to replace the Gingerbread Man. Click here to watch a video to explain what you have to do. Decide what your new character is going to be. Draw a picture of it and then use your adjectives to describe it.

Y1 - Put your adjectives into sentences.

MATHS

Monday 11th January

Y1 - Learning Objective - I can add by counting on.

Today we're going to be adding by counting on. You will need a number line, some number cards and a dice - see resources.

Look at the video Y1 Maths Adding by Counting on and answer the questions as you go along.

Task - Pick a number card. Then roll a dice and count on the number on the dice, remember don't count your starting number. Use your resources to help you. Record your answers on your recording sheet.

YR - Learning Objective - I can understand the number Zero.

Watch the Numberblocks video, all about the number zero.

You will need some paper, a blank five frame and some counters (could be pebbles, conkers, pasta)

Task - Watch and listen to the song Five Little Monkey's Jumping on the bed

Watch it again and pause it after each monkey falls out of bed. Can you show the number of monkeys on your number frame? Can you write that numeral? What will happen when we get to zero monkeys? How will we write zero?

Tuesday 12th January 2021

Y1 - Learning Objective - I can add by counting on.

You will need your number line.

Today we're going to continue practicing addition by counting on. Watch the Add by counting on video. Warm your brain up by answering the revision questions. As you watch the video work out the additions by counting on along your number line. Remember - we don't count the number that we're on, count the jumps.

Task: Afterwards, practice some more on your own by answering the worksheet questions - see resource below.

YR - Learning objective - I can represent zero.

Today we're continuing to deepen our understanding of the number zero. Watch and listen to the story None the number. Watch this Five Alive Maths video session 2 and answer the questions as you watch. Use countable objects to show the amount of objects the different pictures show e.g. counters, conkers, stones, pasta. How will you represent zero objects?

Task: Then have a go at the challenge - see resources, and draw pictures to represent different numerals. You may like to go for a walk and see if you can spot zero amounts out and about; take a photo of what you find.

Reception - Learning Objective - I can find number bonds to numbers to 5.

Today we are looking at different ways of making numbers to 5. What ways of making 5 can you think of? Click here to watch a video all about different ways of making 5 (lesson 3). Then look at the Alive in 5 session 3 PDF in resources, there is a game for you to play. Let us know on Class Dojo how you've got on.

Year 1 - Learning Objective - I can add ones using number bonds

Today we're going to be using our knowledge of number bonds to help us add numbers to 20. You may find it easier if you have counting objects to help you - counters, conkers, stones, pasta. In resources there is a tens frame resources too. Click here to watch the video explaining this method. Work out each example as you go along. Then complete questions 1 and 2 on the attached worksheets (we will be practising this some more tomorrow and will complete the sheet then). Upload your work to your portfolio on Class Dojo.

Today we're going to be comparing numbers to 5 - identifying which is the greater amount. Click here to watch a video explaining it to you (session 4). Then look at the Alive in 5 session 4 PDF below and play the game - you could use these cards or you might have a game with pictures of different amounts on that you could use. Year 1 - Learning Objective - I can find number bonds to 20

Today we're going to be using our number bonds to 10 to help us work out number bonds to 20. Click here to watch a video explaining it. Complete the questions on the attached worksheet below. You might also like to play a this Funky Mummy computer game to help practice quick recall of your number bonds.

Reception - Learning Objective - I can find equal and unequal amounts.

Today we're going to be looking comparing different amounts to see if they are the same or equal or if they are different. Click here to watch a video explaining it to you. (session 5). Then look at the Alive in 5 session 5 PDF below and play complete the activity - have a teddy bears picnic and share food out to your teddy bears.

Look at the attached resource Real and Nonsense Words, read the words and then sort them into two groups - real/nonsense. Y1 History

Learning Objective - To create a timeline.

Look at the images of castles - which do you think are the oldest castles? Can you put the pictures in order from oldest to most recent? Have a look at the Castles PowerPoint to find out more information about each style of castle. Task - Make your own castle timeline. Cut out the castle pictures and place them in order on a time line, from oldest castle to what castles look like now.

PSHE

Learning Objective - To understand that they are part of a family.

Talk to your grown ups about your family. You may want to look at photos of your family. Think about how many people are there in your family.

Who are they to you?
Where do they live?
When do you see them?
How do different members of your family care for you and how do you care for them?

Task - Draw and label a picture of your family. Y1's Please write a sentence about your family.
