Parent Governor & Chair of Governors

I have been a resident of Benwick for the past 20 years and have had children in Benwick Primary School for the last 14 years, I currently have 2 children attending Benwick Primary School. I work in the public sector and have done so for the past 11 years, most recently in a supervisory position. My job has provided me with training and experience dealing with safeguarding of vulnerable people including children, as well as dealing with children and adults when they are at their most vulnerable. I have been a governor at Benwick since 2011 with a year's break in 2017, I am currently Chair to the governing body and have 9 years’ experience in that position. I have always had Benwick Primary’s best intentions at heart as well as the progress and happiness of the children and will continue to do so. You can contact me via my school email.

Mrs Karen Piper

Mrs Karen Piper

Co-opted Governor

Hello, my name is Karen Piper and I am the newly appointed Co-opted Governor. Many parents and children will know me as the previous Deputy Headteacher and SENCo of Benwick School. I took early retirement in 2023 but have kept firm ties with the school through supply teaching and voluntary work. My SLT experience from Benwick and elsewhere together with my awareness of day to day teaching and curriculum issues means I am well placed to assist the Head Teacher, staff and governing body with the strategic development and direction of the school and the challenges it faces. I have had experience of being a staff governor and parent governor previously and always enjoyed being part of helping and supporting children to achieve their very best.
Mr Paul Miller

Mr Paul Miller

Local Authority Governor

Hello everyone, I am Paul. I joined the Army at 16 and served for 14 years in the Royal Corps of Signals. Since leaving the service I have been working in industry in the Defence sector. I have a lot of experience in leading diverse teams to deliver quality products against challenging timescales using tightly controlled budgets of public money. I was inspired to volunteer in the community and as I firmly believe a good education is essential to enable our young people to reach their full potential. I felt bringing my skills as a governor to help the wonderful team at Benwick Primary to support them in providing the best possible education for the children is a worthwhile cause. I look forward to working with the staff and the parents to ensure Benwick Primary continues to live up to its high educational standards and aspirations.

Mrs Cheryl Oakman

Parent Governor

Hello everyone, I'm Cheryl Oakman and a resident of Benwick since 2017. I have a son who attends Benwick Primary School and we love the nurturing, inclusive environment of this wonderful school. I am a Civil Servant with experience of working in several central government departments and most recently being close to delivery of education policy. This included leading one of the former government Opportunity Areas, where it was a huge privilege to work with amazing education settings and leaders across Fenland and East Cambridgeshire. I firmly believe every child can, and should, go as far as their imagination allows and I look forward to working with all of the brilliant staff, governors and parents of Benwick to help make that happen.
