Our Learning Environment
Our environment is carefully laid out to allow the children to access the different areas of the curriculum through self-directed play, allowing the adults to support and extend their learning alongside them. We have the following areas, with changing weekly challenges that link to children's current learning and interests.
The Maths Zone, with lots of resources linked to number, shape, space, and measure.
The Message Centre, with papers and mark-making materials to support children in their independent writing.
A Phonics Area, with activities and games to support children with their reading and decoding skills.
The Book Nook, a cosy corner to snuggle up and read a wide variety of different books.
Number 10 Robin Street, is our home corner which, allows children to develop narratives, their knowledge of the world, and personal and social skills.
The Make and Create zone - for children to access a range of tools such as scissors, glue, hole punches, and sellotape, for creating their own models and designs. Paint, crayons, felts, pencils are available for children to express their creativity through art. There is also a malleable area where children can use a range of tools with playdough and other materials to develop their fine motor skills.
A Construction and Small World Area, this area includes a wide range of construction resources such as Wooden blocks, Duplo, GeoMag, and Polydron. There are also small toys such as people, farm animals, and vehicles for children to act out narratives and be imaginative.
A Finger Gym with challenges and activities to support the development of the children's fine motor skills and handwriting.
Water World, which includes a range of resources to support the children's development in Mathematics, Literacy and Expressive Arts and Design.
Investigation Station - This area gives children opportunities to investigate and explore. We also have Ipads and other ICT resources such as Bee-Bots and metal detectors for children to use.
Snack and Chat - a space for children to self-select fruit and vegetables and a drink. Children can develop their communication skills by talking to their friends.
Carpet Kingdom - This is the area where we come together as a class, teaching inputs are given in this area.
Activity Tables - We have 2 tables in the classroom for children to complete adult-directed tasks, in addition to their learning through play.
The Proud Cloud where we love to share the 'Wow Moments' our parents and carers send in from home.
The children in Robins have daily access to the outdoor space, which includes the following:
An Outdoor Maths area, full of natural materials to support the children's understanding of number, measures, shape and pattern.
The Den, which contains a range of resources to support learning in writing and mark making. There is also a range of books for children to sit and read.
The Builders Yard, this contains resources for children to make large scale models, using crates, tyres, pipes, tarpaulins, big blocks and toy bricks.
A Sand box, with lots of digging tools, buckets, sieves and molds.
Large Water area, which includes a range of resources to support the children's development in Mathematics, Literacy and Expressive Arts and Design.
A separate gravelled area which includes soil-filled tyres for growing fruit, vegetables and flowers as well as areas for digging.
Agatha's Cafe - Where children can act out and use their imagination to develop narratives, their knowledge of the world, and personal and social skills.
Teepees - a quiet space for children to read, relax, and have chat with a friend.
We also make use of the main school playground using bikes and trikes and the climbing frame to develop gross motor skills and coordination.
